The Russian version of Minecraft has a button that the child pressed hundreds of times and most likely never read.

In English, this is Respawn. The finger finds the button by itself, by memory, in any language.
Now try signing it in a different way: «Live on.» «Continue.» «Start over.».
Does it fit?
It seems so. All these words are more understandable, shorter, and closer to the Russian vernacular at home. At home, no one says «I have been reborn.» At home, they say «oh, I have died again» and «let’s start over.».
But if you check every word to see what actually happens after you press it, almost all of them will fall apart.
First, see what the button does
To choose a word, you need to know what it should describe.
Click «Reborn» and take a closer look.
The character appears not at the edge of the bed. He stands at the bed where he last slept. If he never slept in that bed, then it is where he first appeared in this world.
Full health. There is no hunger.
The pockets are empty. The sword, the dagger, and the collected diamonds remain lying where he died. We still have to go after them until they disappear.
The world hasn't gone anywhere in the meantime. The house that was built a week ago is still standing. The garden is growing. The storage chests are full.
There are four characteristics that emerge.
It appears in another place.
Healthy and full.
Without things.
In the same world.
Now, with these clues, you can check any word as a clue to a riddle.
To revive
Let's start with the most natural thing.
In the fairy tale about Ivan the Tsar Boy and the gray wolf, the wolf sprays dead water on the murdered Tsar Boy first, then live water. Ivan the Tsar Boy gets up and says that he slept for a long time.
He came to life.
He stayed where he had been lying; the same Ivan.
We are checking the symptoms.
Healthy? Yes.
In the same world? Yes.
Elsewhere? The very word about it is silent. But they usually come to life where they used to lie.
Without the things? Yes, the brothers took everything. This is a perfect match of a fairy tale and a game.
Three signs converge, and the fourth leaves the reader guessing. The player, having read «Alive,» would most likely expect to find themselves where they fell. And they will find themselves at the bed.

This word is familiar from other games. Continue.
To continue means to go on from the place where you stopped. Like in a book with a bookmark.
But the character stops at the edge of the cliff and continues to stand by the bed. And what he had in his hands doesn’t go with him anymore.
Again, the location and the things don't match.
«What the game promises to »continue” promises more than it delivers.
Start over
That's the word that's most often heard at home: «Let's start over.».
It handles the situation better this way. It means starting from scratch, from some starting point, and the bed could very well be that starting point. It also works with empty pockets, but a beginner starts without any belongings.
And with the world comes trouble.
«Start over» in games usually means starting the whole game from scratch. A new world, neither home nor garden, nor chests. A child who saw the word «start over» on that button might be afraid that the week of construction was gone.
Nothing has been lost. The house is still standing.

To appear again
Let's try to say directly what is happening.
The character disappeared at the edge and reappeared at the bed.
In another place. Coming together means «appearing» exactly where you were just not there.
Healthy, without any belongings. He keeps quiet about it, but he doesn't argue either.
In the same world. It all comes together; «again» here refers to a character; the world he has been waiting for.
All four signs are present on the spot.
This version is closest to the English one. Respawn is derived from re, again, and spawn, to appear. «To appear again» is almost a literal translation.

Break the word down into its parts.

In ordinary English, spawn refers to fish and frogs when they spawn their eggs. From each egg, a little fish or a frog will emerge. This meaning of the word has evolved to mean the appearance of a character or monster on the map in games.
It turns out that the Englishman also described this button through birth—only through the egg.
Minecraft itself has this feature. In 2022, frogs appeared in the game; they lay their eggs in swamp water, and the block is called frogspawn in English. The word respawn means "floating in the swamp, a few minutes' walk from the bed.".
Resp, spawn, and as the players themselves say
There is also another candidate that adults usually don't know about.
In conversations between players, you can hear «resp,» «spawn,» and «I've spawned.» This is an English word that has been adapted to Russian. The child might have heard it in videos or from friends.
Checking it for signs is pointless; it is, after all, a respawn. All four signs coincide because it is the same word.
But there is no button for the official Russian version of it. There is «Reborn.».
Thus, one action in Russian has three names. One is a literary one, with a birthday inside. Another is a colloquial one, taken from English. And the last one is a simple one, «to appear again,» which can explain the first two.

The bed you are born into
The last sign, the place, is associated with another inscription.
