In recent years, psychology has brought us many new concepts that our parents did not know about. But at the same time, they had already applied many of them in our childhood, even though they had no knowledge of pedagogy. As children, we often heard about the need to be neat, to keep our room, briefcase and so on in order. And teachers were strict about cleanliness in notebooks and picked on our appearance. Now many do not attach importance to such ordinary things. But psychologists insist: neatness in childhood is an important skill that will help in the future. In this article, let's understand the "soft skills" and how their development helps a child grow into a successful adult.
Where did the concept of soft or flexible skills come from
Hard skills ("hard skills") | Soft skills |
Ability to create web-sites in PHP | Quickly learn new applications needed for the job |
Draw a company logo in Adobe Illustrator | Ability to convince the customer to change the terms of reference, saving time for its fulfillment |
Analyze the legal risks of the contract sent by the party to the transaction | Be able to quickly switch between work tasks without loss of efficiency |
As is often the case, this term came to psychology from the military. American specialists who assessed the professional qualities of military personnel first introduced the concept of "soft skills". Until the 70s of the 20th century, people were selected for military service only on the basis of their ability to master technology. Accordingly, it was technical qualities that were prioritized. Simply put, soft skills are a person's ability to make quick decisions, find a common language with people and effectively manage subordinates. Gradually, the term was picked up by psychologists who were not related to the army and continued research in this area.
Why be neat
Today's companies look not only at the professional but also at the personal qualities of candidates when hiring employees. That is why psychologists recommend that children should be prepared for the future from a young age.
Back to neatness. In fact, it is one of the puzzles of a more complex skill - self-organization. A child who learns order and cleanliness in his personal space from childhood is more organized and less prone to "emotional swings". That is, he reacts less to trouble and copes with it easily.
What are some basic things to teach your child about order? Start as early as 2-3 years old - put away toys, make the bed, keep the desk clean. Many parents wave their hand and do everything themselves - when he grows up, he will learn. Unfortunately, later it turns out that in front of them a teenager who does not know how to serve themselves. And this leads to other difficulties - problems in learning, lack of interests and behavioral problems.
What else does it affect

So, even without psychologists, our parents understood that teaching order is not an empty sound? Modern research confirms that a child who knows where he or she keeps things from childhood is more self-confident. He forms independence from childhood, and this is a direct path to normal adulthood, without infantilism.
As adults, such employees are valued for their adherence to deadlines, attention to detail, and respect for colleagues. And these qualities are laid down in childhood - from small habits.
Agree that a professional who is always late and misses deadlines causes dissatisfaction, which eventually leads to refusal to work with him.
Classes at school can teach neatness
How are order and lessons related, you ask? In the most direct way. Classes have a schedule, and the child gradually gets used to having sports, drawing or languages on certain days. Doing homework is also a useful habit that doesn't just consolidate knowledge. It accustoms the child to regularity, preparation for lessons, meeting deadlines.
