Emotional intelligence - raising a happy child

Every parent wants to see their child healthy and happy. And if physical activity, fresh air and a healthy diet make them healthy, what is needed for happiness? Psychologists are increasingly talking about the development of emotional intelligence from an early age. If a child learns to understand his emotions and control them, a happy future awaits him.

Cartoon "Puzzle"

Remember cartoon "Puzzle"? If you haven't watched it, let's tell you its essence in a nutshell. The plot is based on 5 basic emotions that control a person: anger, sadness, disgust, joy and fear. Its main character is a little girl Riley, who is going through a difficult period because of family problems. And over the course of the movie, the heroine goes through a journey of self awareness through getting to know her emotions. Scientifically speaking, she pumps her emotional intelligence.

Conclusion - a person needs to learn to understand the nature of his emotions and manage them. Then he will grow up to be an open, self-confident person to whom other people will be attracted.

The relationship between emotional intelligence and learning

Modern psychologists say that academic performance and the desire to learn new things are also closely related to emotional intelligence. If a child has it developed, it will be easier for him to establish contact with peers and teachers, which is often the reason for children's dislike of school. It turns out that if we want a child to succeed in his studies, it is necessary to develop his emotional intelligence.

How to develop it? Here are some simple games you can play with your child.

Games for the development of emotional intelligence

  1. Today, I felt like - before bedtime, invite the child to continue the phrase: "Today I felt (emotion) when (something happened). This practice teaches the child to recognize his or her emotions and understand what is going on inside.
  2. Gallery of emotions - Many children like to draw. Instead of the usual subjects, have them draw different emotions - joy, sadness, anger, boredom, etc. Hang these pictures in the room so that the child can see them and over time track how their feelings change as they get older.
  3. Emotion Chest - Invite your child to draw a box or chest in his brain in which he will put all the things that make him happy. Use all the senses to do this. For example, what does he like to hear? What does he like to taste? What does he like to watch? "Close the box and put it away. After a while, you can go back to it and see which components have changed.
  4. Drawing emotions - Take colored felt-tip pens or pencils and ask the child to choose a color that matches a particular emotion. If the child wants, he or she can use the color chosen to express on paper how he or she imagines the emotion.
  5. Emoting an emotion with the body - When you switch roles with a child, try to show the emotion with your body and have your partner guess it. It's tricky. The face must remain neutral.
