Vibe, agra, imba, tap - how do you understand youth slang?

What to do if a teenager inserts incomprehensible words into his speech? If you don't understand half of what the kids are discussing among themselves, then it's time to pick up a dictionary of youth slang.

But, before you learn the meaning of newfangled words, we will tell you in a nutshell why children pick them up so easily. And also, whether parents should fear for the future of their child with the vocabulary of "Ellochka the Ogre".

Why do children speak in slang?

If we look at children up to the age of 9-10 (some a little earlier), their vocabulary is just forming. Since they are more parent-oriented, they do not yet have a large number of youth slang words in their vocabulary.

But starting from adolescence, their desire to fit into society and separate from their parents intensifies. There is a need to stand out, unite by interests and communicate in a "secret" language. And, although many parents are alarmed during this period, it is too early to be upset.

By the way, this is also the age when the reluctance to learn grows. If you're interested, we've already wrote an article on the subject.

First of all, think back to your puberty. Every generation of youth has its own trends that come into the language and, fortunately, do not stay long.

Secondly, teenagers are already shaken by hormones and internal imbalances - they are no longer children, but they are not yet adults. Some will cross the threshold of adulthood earlier, some later. But in any case, the brain will mature, hormones will subside, and thoughts and speech will be in order.

After all, who will now remember that there was once such a "olban" language, where words were deliberately twisted in writing? Do you remember? But once upon a time, the Internet seriously feared that this trend would cause a real reform of the language.

How do you respond to youth slang?

Many parents ask themselves, do we need to speak their language to teenagers? No. Kids clearly understand the line between themselves and adults. And they themselves will feel uncomfortable if their mother starts to "roffle" with them.

By the way, American children has its own words, too. from youth slang, and a lot of it echoes our own.

What to do? Wait for children to grow up and become adults themselves, with good literate speech.
