Top 8 habits that will help your child's future. How to implement them

Hi, Palme School is here with you, today we are discussing healthy habits for a child. What skills we help our children to acquire to make their future more secure.

Why does a child need healthy habits in the first place?

No person becomes an adult in a single day. It is a process in which parents lay the bricks of the foundation from deep infancy.

Yes, many skills can be learned as an adult, but a team of researchers from the London Institute of Social Research back in 2015 did a study on the long-term effects of soft-skills that people adults learned as children.

In brief: the dynamics are positive. These adults are more likely to get high positions, enjoy their work, and know how to build healthy relationships. They are also less likely to be addicted to smoking and alcohol.

Last month. here we discussed 10 skills that are currently popular on Linkedin among job seekers.

Communication, leadership, analytics, teamwork, research, and other were most common.

And at the end of the article, we have suggested several skills that can be implemented from childhood. Among them: logic, concentration, technological literacy, adaptability, memory and creativity.

Today, we'll delve into what habits to implement to build the skills to study comfortably, play with friends, and develop potential in any industry.

3 tips on how to teach these skills to your child?

    1. Always start with yourself. A child is a part of the family ecosystem and most of the habits he or she reads from the parents' behavior. If you spend several hours a day on social networks, don't expect your child to consciously and independently limit procrastination time to 15 minutes a day.
    2. Implement habits one at a time. All changes should be gradual so that the child's psyche adapts without trauma and sudden jumps. Allocate at least 2-3 months for the introduction of one habit.
    3. Stay patient. Children learn differently than adults. They can learn quickly if they are interested and immersed in the game. But your job is to build the process so that children remain interested in the new habit. Make it fun and encourage them to try.

We talked about how to encourage properly here. Backed up a few studies and added recommendations.

What childhood habits will we implement?

For development concentrations there are options:

  • Reading 20 pages a day. Suitable for children who can already read. Choose a book together. Discuss what you have read.

Lifehack: buy colorful stickers for your child to mark interesting moments and share with you.

  • Exercise or yoga. There should be no cartoons playing or a book with homework lying in front of the mat. It is important to learn to pay attention to your body, how your muscles feel when you pull on them, etc.

Lifehack: you can download a kids app with exercises or buy a course for kids where a trainer will teach it online.

For development logics you could try this:

  • Solving math problems. Modern age-appropriate math textbooks or apps will do the trick.

Lifehack: our teachers at Palme School conduct five-minute logic problems.

  • Play board games, puzzles. Strategies in games help us think coherently, and boardgames also visualize how decisions lead us to unusual points.

Lifehack: if you subscribe to our newsletter, you can get a set of puzzles for kids.

For development communication and emotional intelligence in general, try this:

  • Communicate with your child about his and your feelings at least 20 minutes a day. Talk about what happened to you during the day and how you felt. Ask questions about how your child feels, what made him or her happy or sad.

Lifehack: buy a book or a notebook of emotions and learn to fill it out with your child.

  • Watch movies or cartoons together, discuss how different characters felt and why.
