Language is the only way to keep in touch with the Motherland. Without knowing the language, it is impossible to understand the thinking of your compatriots, read books, watch movies, communicate. But do our children need it? Here are 5 statements that the Russian language is an effective way to keep in touch with the Motherland:
1. Speaking Russian, children learn their native culture. At Palme School, teachers always give examples of animals, plants, landmarks and holidays that are found in Russia. This means that with language learning the child is already absorbing a part of his/her native culture.
2. By learning Russian, children adopt a different mindset. We have written a lot about this before. Language features are reflected in thinking and vice versa. Therefore, if a child learns not only English or Canadian, but also Russian, he or she will be able to think more broadly, find ways out of different life situations in different ways and much more effectively. This means that your child will be more successful than those children who know only one language.
3. By speaking Russian, children keep in touch with their relatives. They communicate via Skype or messengers with grandparents, uncles and aunts, talk about their news and receive praise and admiration from relatives. This builds self-esteem and fosters a sense of attachment to family members.
4. Knowing Russian, it is possible to come to the homeland and establish contacts. It doesn't matter for what reasons someone wants to come to Russia - out of curiosity, to socialize with relatives, to study culture, or to do business. If you know the language, you can achieve any goal.
5. Thanks to the connection with the homeland, children will always be supported. Russian breadth of soul and hospitality, the ability to compassion, the position "we do not abandon our own" will always be useful.
Dovlatov wrote in one of his books that in America men call their psychotherapist at 2 am. Russians, on the other hand, always call their friends or relatives to talk it out and get help, support, sympathy. If a child knows Russian and keeps in touch with his relatives, he will never be alone.
