Many young parents today choose to educate their children through play.
They believe that if kids aren’t forced into boring lessons, they’ll grow up happier. Educational games, after all, still help develop thinking skills. They believe that if kids aren’t forced into boring lessons, they’ll grow up happier. Educational games, after all, still help develop thinking skills. But the reality is a bit more complex.
Why doesn’t play alone support proper development?
Life doesn’t always give us what we want. If parents raise children relying only on games and avoiding any form of pressure, the child may never learn self-control.
This approach can result in kids being unprepared for the real world. And that’s not the only issue.
Games are great — but without challenging mental effort, the brain can’t fully develop. Children need to read, solve math problems, memorize poems and rules. Without putting in effort, there’s no moral growth and no strong foundation for learning.
Games can be useful for motivation and reducing stress around learning. But they can’t replace structured education. By the way, we’ve already collected a list of great bilingual learning methods for you.

How do you build discipline?
Learning requires discipline. And this is something every child needs to develop. But that doesn’t mean parenting should be all about rules and restrictions.
Games can spark curiosity. But children also need to be taught how to move forward when things get difficult. That’s how growth happens.
Learning takes energy. So it’s natural for kids to get tired and want to play instead of study. That’s okay. True development always involves effort.

Should you push your child to study?
Forcing a child to learn rarely works. You’ll only make them resent it. What truly matters is teaching them how to overcome challenges. That’s a lifelong skill.
Of course, the brain resists hard work. Just like our bodies resist exercise at first. But the results are worth it.
Only learning can develop a child’s mind — and prepare them to handle life’s challenges.
