How to develop the right attitudes in children

Every parent has a different understanding of what is "right" and "wrong". Only one thing everyone agrees on: to look at the world positively, to be an open person, to love yourself and others - it is right. Positivity always and in everything is one of the important factors of a successful and happy life. Parents will help to form such a worldview.

Eric Berne's book "Games People Play" reveals the mechanisms of formation of life position and view of the world. Based on them, we can give some recommendations to parents:

- Trust in the world and positive attitudes are formed from infancy through an emotional connection with parents. This connection can be established through sensory contact - stroking, kissing, hugging. By depriving the child of affection, you form in him/her the attitude "I am bad" or "My parents do not love me".

- During the preschool and elementary school years, it is very important for a child to have parents involved in his or her affairs, interests, events. When telling about what happened today, he wants to see real, not fake interest. The same goes for hobbies.

- It is important to choose the right words when communicating with your child. Even if you are annoyed or very disappointed with the behavior or results of studies, do not allow insults ("You can put a stake on his head!", "No brains, no imagination!"). The child will not resent you for a long time, but he will develop a negative attitude towards himself and his abilities.

- You don't want to give negative "predictions". Phrases like "You'll become a janitor!", "You'll never get married!", "You'll be alone!" program the child, acting as a real curse. He begins to believe that an unhappy life awaits him, and he will not succeed. Such "scenarios" are often realized in reality, and it is extremely difficult to free oneself from them.

- There should be no violence in the family: psychological, emotional and, even more so, physical. Enrolling a child in courses that he or she does not like (initially or after 2-3 classes) is the same violence. It is also violence to try to "form" a child into a prodigy if there are no prerequisites for it.

Formation of a life position does not only take place in the family. That is why it is very important to choose school and additional courses carefully. Both at school and in various classes, children should be taught positive attitudes and views - through communication, teachers' attitudes towards pupils, and the system of testing knowledge. At Palme School these attitudes are instilled. Our teachers love and respect children.
