How to motivate your child to do homework on their own

Parents don't always have time to sit down with their child for homework. And independence should be developed. How to do it? Here are 10 tips for children of different ages:

1. Create the conditions. Say to your son (daughter): "Please put on your headphones, your brother is doing his homework". Before going to independence, it is better to make sure that the child has everything he/she needs to do it.
2. Start small. For example, you can say, "Honey, I have an urgent call. Can you write the example in your notebook and solve it on a draft? I'll come and check it and you can write it in your notebook. If a child gets used to doing a task on his own even a little bit, later he will get used to doing the whole thing.
3. Stay close. It is easier for children to learn independence if they are backed up by their parents.
4. Plan by asking your child, "Where will you start?". Help him understand where he will start his homework, what subject he will do first, when there will be a break.
5. Play. Offer to read the poem by role. You can also put a favorite toy next to it and let the child learn the poem together with it or explain the rules to it.
6. Tell us why you liked to do your homework on your own as a child.
7. Put away the gadgets and all distractions. If mom is sitting next to him, a schoolchild won't go to check TicToc, but without mom - easily.
8. Praise for successes. Say how beautifully the child wrote a line of letters, and then ask, "Can you do that again?" There is a green pen rule. When evaluating the completed task, emphasize what has turned out best.
9. Ask your child to look for inaccuracies. For example, you could say, "There is a mistake in the solution. Can you solve it yourself?". The skill of self-checking is very important for the development of independence.
10. Praise your child for even the smallest acts of independencerepeating: "That's good that you did that!". This will increase confidence and the child will want to do more next time.

Patience, patience and patience again! You will need a lot of it, but the result will be worth it!
