How tutors differ from educators

Children can learn at school with teachers or with a tutor. Parents sometimes specifically choose a tutor because the lessons are individual or in a group of 2-4 people, and the cost is cheaper than school tuition. But the difference between a tutor and a teacher is much deeper. Let's tell you how they differ.

- The word "pedagogue" means "child-minding" in ancient Greek. The word "tutor" is borrowed from Polish and means "to repeat". Initially, a teacher and a tutor have different tasks: one teaches, explains, leads to knowledge, the other helps to repeat and memorize.
- A teacher always has a pedagogical background. He knows age psychology, pedagogy, methods of teaching, consolidation of knowledge. He knows how to educate and form personality, teach goal-setting, perseverance. The tutor can be a student of a specialized university. For example, students of the last courses of mathematical faculties can do math with schoolchildren. They certainly know the subject, but they do not know pedagogy.
- The teacher uses a variety of educational methods and it helps to select teaching methods suitable for different students: visual, kinesthetic, auditory. If a tutor spends only 4-5 lessons with one child, it makes no sense for him to find out the type of information perception of his mentee. They will soon part soon anyway.
- The teacher plans the learning activity, the program, the expected result and a lesson plan. This is like the foundation of any learning process. A tutor can fill specific gaps in knowledge.
- A teacher objectively assesses the knowledge of his/her students. He wants to give knowledge and help to use it in practice. A tutor more often only praises students, losing objectivity.
