Which Generation Are You? A Guide to Boomers, Zoomers, and More

Which Generation Are You? A Guide to Boomers, Zoomers, and More

Recently, the theory of generations has become incredibly popular. All people have been divided into groups and a special set of qualities and habits has been identified among them.

These are not just folk folklore, but scientific research. They are based on cultural and historical events that took place at the time of formation of a particular generation. In addition, the technological progress that created people's personality was also taken into account.

The most interesting thing is that this description often coincides with reality. Maybe this theory does have a right to exist? But who are the boomers and zoomers that are being talked about a lot?

Let's find out what generations people are now divided into. At the same time, you will be able to check which generation you belong to.

Generational theory

There are currently 7 major generations over the last 100 or so years:

  • The Greatest Generation (1901-1927)
  • The Silent Generation (1928-1945)
  • The boomer generation (1946-1964).
  • Generation X (1965-1980)
  • Millennials (1981-1996)
  • The Zoomers, or Generation Z (1997-2012)
  • Generation Alpha (since 2013)

Each of these generations has a specific set of qualities and characteristics. For example:

Boomers grew up during a boom in birth rates and a booming technology and economy. At that time, everyone believed that an incredible new world was ahead, in which everyone would be happy.

Boomers were used to stability, order, and responsibility. They believed that the world around them was beautiful, but they realized that they too had to contribute to prosperity.

Generation X grew up in a not so favorable time. Technology was still developing as fast as ever, but it was no longer so accessible to ordinary people. During these years, freedom and anarchy flourished in the world. Subcultures were emerging, and the trend for active self-expression was growing.

General trends in the world have forced this generation to grow up faster and become independent. They are able to adapt quickly to any changes and value personal space.

The Millennial generation was born practically at the turn of the millennium. That's when the global transition from the past to the future as we know it was taking place.

Millennials have grown up with the internet and have known since birth what modern technology is all about. However, it was Millennials' childhoods that suffered terrible terrorist attacks and many other shocks.

Millennials were practically the first generation to seriously consider their mental health. Millennials are the ones who have become rigid about their work and rest schedules.

The buzzers were born when social media and gadgets were already firmly embedded in our lives. These children were literally on the Internet from birth. Thanks to this, they learned to absorb information at an incredible speed. But there is a side effect - these children are used to living in virtual space, not in reality.

Generation Alpha has also been living hand in hand with gadgets since birth. They learn and play through tablets and smartphones.

The Alpha generation clearly knows their personal boundaries and knows how to assert them. They are inquisitive, but are able to absorb information only in small portions. The so-called «clip thinking» prevails in them.

The imagination of the Alpha generation has almost no limits, so they easily find creative ways out of any situation. In addition, this generation is capable of generating breakthrough ideas. Both in technology and in business.

Parents raise the Alpha generation trying to give them everything. Especially freedom. That's why there's a lot of of new parenting trends

Why understand generational theory?

The formation of a whole generation of people is strongly influenced by the time in which they were born. Dealing with the theory of generations, you can understand what a person has on his soul, what his fears are. What he aspires to and what he will never agree to.

Of course, the boundaries of these generations are a bit blurred. Especially for those who were born at the crossroads of generations. And in which generation did you find yourself?
