Horrors of modern spoken Russian: dreams come true

Horrors of modern spoken Russian: dreams come true

The Russian language can cause panic not only among foreigners. Even native speakers sometimes do not understand how some expressions were formed in the first place. And is it even correct to use them in their speech?

It would seem that by all the rules of language everything is correct. But it sounds very unpleasant and cuts the ear.

One such expression is «Dreams come true». To an ear accustomed to Russian speech, this expression sounds strange. What can we say about foreigners?

Let's figure out if it's even literate to say that or not?

Any language changes over time. Outdated concepts pass away, new words and expressions appear.

Language is adjusting to modern reality.

In addition, any language exists in two types: literary and colloquial Russian.

Literary language complies with all norms and rules. There are no mistakes and nonexistent words in it. But in the colloquial language there are many expressions that you will not find in any dictionary.

Colloquial language is emotion, a simplified transmission of information. And it can be illiterate.

But is the expression «Dream Come True» illiterate?

Actually, yes. The word «dreaming» does not exist in the Russian language. The word «dream» can be called literate. But no one says so, because it looks ugly.

The literate analog of this expression is «Fulfillment of wishes (dreams)».

And such an expression in the Russian language is far from one.

The horrors of language

Besides this expression, there are others that horrify all Russian-speaking people and those who learn Russian.

One of the most incomprehensible expressions from the point of view of foreigners is «No, I guess not». One expression expresses agreement, denial and doubt. It is very difficult to understand such an answer.

There is also the word «victorious», which is so often used by illiterate people. Such a word, of course, does not exist in the Russian language. Although it is formed from the word «victory» in accordance with the rules. But there are exceptions to every rule.

The correct way to say it is «prevail.».

Confusion also arises with the different forms of the verb «to drive». Illiterate forms:

  • «Drive.»
  • «Go.»

Literate Forms:

  • «Drive.»
  • «Drive.»
  • «Drive.»

How do you say, «I vacuum» or «I clean with a vacuum cleaner»?

The first variant is much faster, but it is rather colloquial. Of course, it is more correct to say the second phrase.

Yes, there are many traps in the Russian language into which even native speakers fall. What can we say about foreigners?

It is important not only to communicate in Russian, but also to learn the rules and read books to understand how to speak competently.

And this is important not only for those who are just learning Russian, but also for those who have been speaking it all their lives.
