"Liza passed her Russian language exam and earned extra credits at her American school. That was important for us."
This is a message we recently received from Liza’s mother, a student at Palme School.
For us, it means the world. Behind it are years of dedication, discipline, and persistence.
Liza successfully passed the Russian language World Language Competency Test. In this article, we’ll explain what this exam is and how it can help high schoolers get into college.
- STAMP (Standards-based Measurement of Proficiency) is a standardized online exam that assesses language proficiency across four key skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. It’s widely used in U.S. schools to evaluate students' foreign language abilities.
- This test is optional — students can choose to take it to earn extra academic credits for college applications and future opportunities.

Why is ACTFL certification important?
First of all, the test results are correlated to the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) proficiency levels from Novice Low to Advanced High.
Avant STAMP scores are recognized for Seal of Biliteracy, an official proof of bilingualism It can be useful for college admission or employment.
Lisa and her mom Valentina live in Washington State, where the exam is called the World Language Competency Test. High school students in that state can earn foreign language credits by demonstrating a certificate of proficiency instead of taking a traditional course. This test is especially useful for bilingual students or those who have learned a language outside of the school program.
