How did those old backyard shoes from our childhood become a global trend? How is that even possible?
Many people remember running around their summer cottage as kids in simple rubber clogs — full of holes, no heel, just easy to slip on and off. They were everywhere, sold for next to nothing at markets, and worn by almost everyone.
But now, 25 years later, Crocs have become a fashion statement — a symbol of status and style, worn by celebrities around the world. So, how did Crocs become the hottest shoes of 2025?

The History of Crocs
For decades, sailors and boaters tried to invent a shoe that wouldn’t damage the deck, would grip well, and feel comfortable.
It wasn’t until the early 2000s that three friends — George Boedecker, Scott Seamans, and Lyndon Hanson — found the answer.
They came up with lightweight slip-ons that didn’t sink, didn’t slip, and left no marks. The holes in the front and the open back helped water drain quickly.
The shape reminded them of a crocodile’s snout peeking out of the water — hence the name Crocs.
These shoes quickly gained popularity. But success brought challenges. With so many knockoffs flooding the market, Crocs nearly went bankrupt.
Original Crocs were made of a special material called Croslite — soft, durable, and expensive. Many parents loved baby Crocs for their comfort and bright colors. But few wanted to pay more for the real thing. Sales slowed.
And during the 2000s, the fashion world was all about glamour — not comfy rubber clogs. But things started to change when comfort and humor became trendy again.

Why Crocs Are Cool Again
From 2010 to 2020, the company began bouncing back. They reworked their finances and launched new product lines.
One of their best moves was the creation of Jibbitz — small charms that kids and adults can plug into the holes of their Crocs to personalize them.
This turned every pair into a unique fashion piece. Soon, high-profile collaborations followed.
Major fashion houses and designers teamed up with Crocs, turning them into street-style must-haves. There were Crocs by Balenciaga, Justin Bieber, Post Malone, Bad Bunny, and Diplo — just to name a few.
Today, there are thousands of unique designs. Some are even made by actors, musicians, influencers, and artists. Even kids Crocs now come with exclusive designs.

How to Wear Crocs
Crocs are now a statement — not just practical footwear. And fashion rules? They’re long gone.
Even Hollywood stars proudly wear Crocs with socks or pair them with a dress on the red carpet.
So this summer, wear whatever makes you happy. Style your Crocs your way. The most important thing is: you feel good in them!
