June 6 - Pushkin Day and International Russian Language Day

Summer is rich in festivities, just like other seasons. And June is no exception.

June 6 is the annual Russian Language Day. Coincidentally, this day is the birthday of Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin.

Where did this holiday come from, and how is it celebrated?

In 2010, the UN established official holidays for the languages of the countries participating in the organization. There are 6 such countries in total.

For example, English Language Day was celebrated on Shakespeare's birthday, April 23. And Chinese Language Day is celebrated on April 20.

It was decided to schedule the celebration of the Russian language on the birthday of one of the most famous Russian poets in the whole world - Alexander Pushkin.

On this day all over Russia there are Pushkin readings, poetry festivals, entertainment events.

This day is dedicated to the Russian language and Pushkin and is celebrated in many different ways. For example, in some Russian cities they have made free travel in the metro if you tell the controller Pushkin's poems.

Yes, the modern Russian language is no longer the same as it was at the time of the Great Poet. But it is important to teach and preserve the Russian language in children even abroad. At least through such festivals.

In the USA, this holiday has not gone unnoticed either. This year, an exhibition dedicated to Russian culture and writing was opened in Washington. And there were also events for delegations from all over the world.

Everyone could learn the history of Russian writing and printing, watch folk dances and study the origins of painting.

This is an important step in improving relations between the U.S. and Russia.

How to celebrate the holiday of the Russian language?

Of course, reading Pushkin's poems!

But in order to make it interesting for the children, you can act out the poems. And at the same time tell them what life was like when the poems were written.

You can also read poems that have been written about the poet. We can read them have been published before.

This is very important, because it is Pushkin who can be considered one of the creators of the modern Russian language.

Great poets have created and written our language and our history. But it was Pushkin who was an innovator and wrote about what he saw around him. For this, by the way, he sometimes fell into disfavor with the Emperor.

Pushkin can be compared to modern performers who say what they think and feel they need to convey.

The main thing is not to forget the Russian language when you live abroad. These are your roots and an opportunity to communicate with old acquaintances and relatives who have stayed at home.

How to keep the Russian language interesting?

Very often children do not see the point of learning Russian abroad. Their environment speaks English, their whole life is connected with English. That is why it is so difficult to achieve results in learning.

On the main reasons for the lack of results in the study of the Russian language we've already written

In order for Russian to always be in the child's life on the same level as English you need to properly interest the child.

Classes should be such that children themselves are eager to learn.

That's why at Palme School we have incorporated everything that children like to learn. Games, cartoons, poems, books, creativity, puzzles. And, most importantly, lots of socializing and new acquaintances.

Every child here will find something that is interesting to him and will strive for high results.

At our school there is no rote learning and no boring lessons. Our students learn by playing.

Even the classics are presented in a way that is interesting for the children. We also teach Pushkin's poems and read other famous works.

Therefore, parents are happy to take their children to us, and the children show high results.
