It's better the first 2-3 times you buy something together with your kids to set an example. This is how you can act:
- Choose an online store. Advise your child to compare prices and terms of delivery of goods to the desired city. It is better to use already proven sites than to trust newly opened stores.
- Check if the online store is real. Recognizing a scam store is not easy. Sometimes they make their website so believable that even adults trust and buy goods there. Moreover, sometimes scammers make a copy of famous online stores or create their own store in the same style.
- Get a separate card for online shopping and do not keep a lot of money on it. When buying on the Internet, the user usually enters the card number, expiration date and CVC code. If this data gets to fraudsters, it will be a shame. It is better to transfer the required amount of money to the card immediately before making a purchase.
- Do not fill out a lot of information about yourself in your online store profile. A personal account may have many fields: first name, last name, age, state and city, email, backup number for contact, and so on. The data from the completed forms is usually entered into a database. And it can be hacked or sold. So the less information about you, the better.
You can print or send this handout to your child. Memo "How to shop online."
- Check the store where you want to buy the product. There should be a lock or https icon next to the domain.
- Don't keep a lot of money on your card when you buy an item.
- Don't link the card to your personal store profile.
- Fill in the minimum fields in your online store profile to avoid revealing your personal data.
- Coordinate the purchase and delivery method with your parents.
